Pinterest recently collected data on searches from July 2019 to July 2020 and found users are seeking out more uplifting content than ever. Searches for "positivity" increased by 64% with an emphasis on personal projects — including home improvement and self-improvement — especially among Gen Z and Millennials.
When it comes to Gen Z Pinners, searches for "mental health check-in" was trending five times more than last year. And in terms of home decor, Gen Z is looking to transform their bedrooms into total safe havens with an increase in searches for "Zen bedroom ideas," "calming bedroom," and "feng shui bedroom layout."
As for Millennials, there's been a focus on keeping not only themselves healthy and happy but their families, too. Searches for "mental health activities for kids" increased by three-and-a-half while searches for "conscious parenting" doubled. Millennial parents have also been looking for ways to keep kids active with searches for "kids workout routine" up by 88% and "animal yoga poses for kids" up by 56%.
It's safe to say, we're all looking for more peace and calm at home and within ourselves, whether that means finding balance by redecorating your bedroom or setting up an at-home gym with space for you or your kids to practice yoga.
