Besides having some seriously affordable and customizable organizational pieces for the whole family, IKEA also carries plenty of adorable toys for kiddos. So it only makes sense that the Swedish retailer might pair up with a brand that creates items for both kids and adult enthusiasts.
The upcoming Bygglek collection is a collaboration between IKEA and the LEGO Group focused on mixing storage with playfulness. The products officially drop in stores and online on October 1.
Starting with cardboard prototypes, Andreas Fredriksson, designer at IKEA, and Rasmus Buch Løgstrup, designer at the LEGO Group, decided to make the box a part of the building process.
You can actually put your creations together inside, outside, or around the box. That means you can both store loose pieces inside, and show off your finished pieces. If you're working on this delightful rocket, for instance, you can just set it on the Bygglek box lid when LEGO play time is over and come back to it tomorrow.
And building the boxes themselves becomes part of the fun, too. They will also include "play starters," which feature mini figures, like food items.
"With BYGGLEK, we wanted to make something simple and intuitive you could play with from the moment you open the box, that also works for a five-year old, or mom and dad," Rasmus said in an IKEA press release. "There are no building instructions. The box itself can be a house, a swimming pool, a sports arena. There is no right or wrong."
Time to go take a LEGO break, brb.
