Lice are a common problem with children and families with pets. Contrary to popular belief, lice infestations are not necessarily a sign of poor hygiene or low economic status, according to AskDrSears.com. If you discover a lice infestation in your home, wash all bedding, towels and infected clothing in hot water and sanitize brushes and combs. Use a nit comb on all family members to kill remaining lice, and vacuum the house thoroughly. Medicated treatments are also available. Lice can be spread via pillows, so either purchase new pillows or disinfect them thoroughly to prevent re-infestation.
Remove all pillowcases from pillows. Wash and dry on hot water settings.
Vacuum all pillows thoroughly with a vacuum attachment.
Place pillows in a large sealed plastic bag for at least 10 days to kill any surviving lice.
