How to Get Smudge Prints Off Stainless Steel Refrigerators

While stainless steel appliances give your kitchen a sharp and modern look, they never stay clean for long. The reflective stainless steel surface shows all imperfections such as smudges and fingerprints. It is nearly impossible to prevent smudges from appearing on the steel surface, but you can remove them with common household products to keep the surface shiny and attractive. Cleaning your stainless steel refrigerator regularly will ensure that the appliance looks its best for many years.

Remove smudge prints from stainless steel refrigerators carefully to prevent scratches.

Step 1

Treat the smudges with 1 tablespoon of mild liquid dish soap combined with 1 quart of warm water in a bowl. Dampen a washcloth in the soapy water and wipe the smudges in the direction of the grain. Rinse the surface with hot water and dry it with a soft washcloth.

Step 2

Pour white vinegar into a spray bottle and mist the refrigerator. Wipe the vinegar onto the stainless steel with a soft and damp washcloth in the direction of the grain. White vinegar does not need to be rinsed. Dry the surface with a soft towel or washcloth after you remove the fingerprints.

Step 3

Remove tough smudges by shining the stainless steel with olive, vegetable or baby oil. Apply 1 teaspoon of the oil onto a soft washcloth and wipe it over the surface in the direction of the grain. Apply oil to the washcloth as needed until you cover the entire surface.

Step 4

Clean the surface of the stainless steel refrigerator with club soda to remove streaks and smudges. Dampen paper towels or a washcloth with the soda and wipe it over the affected areas. Rinse the club soda off the refrigerator and dry the surface with a soft towel immediately to prevent watermarks from forming.

Step 5

Apply pure lemon juice to a washcloth and wipe it over the surface. Wipe the lemon juice over the smudges and then rinse the area with warm water. Dry the refrigerator with a soft towel.
