Things You'll Need

  • Feather duster or dryer cloth

  • Sponge

  • Soap and water

  • Clean rag

  • Silicone lubricant spray

Care for vertical blinds much as you would horizontal blinds.

Vertical blinds can represent a significant investment. They can be a long lasting home improvement with the proper care, cleaning and maintenance on a regular basis. Many homeowners are unaware that their blinds require lubrication so that they will operate properly and not place undue strain on the components of the blinds.

Step 1

Get the loose dust off the vertical blind track by using a feather duster or dryer cloth. You do not want to apply lubricant over the top of dirt and dust; it will only make it stick and be even harder to clean.

Step 2

Wash the track clean with a sponge dampened with mild soapy water.

Step 3

Dry the track with a clean cloth, and allow it to air dry for a few minutes also.

Step 4

Spray lubricant into the track so that you give both the tilt gears and the track a light coat of silicon. Do not use the more commonly available petroleum-based lubricants. Repeat the lubrication once a year for long lasting vertical blinds.
