A broken washing machine or dryer is an inconvenience in many busy households.

Step 1

Check the appliance's door is completely closed; clothes can easily stop the door closing by falling between the door and latch mechanism. Neither the washing machine or dryer will start until the door is completely closed. Move the clothes away from the door and try again.

Step 2

Plug the machines directly into a live electrical outlet without using an extension cord. Ensure the plugs are fully inserted in the outlet and confirm there is a working electricity supply by plugging something else into the outlet. Change the fuse or reset the breaker protecting the appliance's circuit if the outlet is dead.

Step 3

Reprogram the appliance via the control dials and hold the "Start" button for a few seconds. You might be making a mistake with the appliance's various options that is stopping the cycle beginning. The washing machine or dryer might not begin unless the "Start" button is held for a few seconds.

Step 4

Straighten the hoses at the back of the washing machine and ensure both the hot and cold water shut-off valves are fully turned to the open position. The washing machine will struggle to draw and drain water if the hoses are twisted or crushed.

Step 5

Turn both shut-off valves to the closed position and unscrew the hoses at the washing machine end. Remove any dirt or debris blocking the filter screens just inside the washing machine from where the supply hoses attach. Screw the hoses back on, open the shut-off valves and try the appliance again.

Step 6

Reduce the amount of clothes inside the appliance's drum; the weight could be too much for the motor to handle. Always clean large items and upholstery separate from your regular clothes. The Neptune dryer won't start if the combined weight of the clothes and water is too much. One washing machine load equals one dryer load.
