- Beginning with a desire to hand-knit a dress for her best friend's baby, Sheila picked up knitting before moving onto other craft hobbies, which led her to larger projects and down a home DIY rabbit hole she still inhabits today.
- She has reported on tile innovation for years, including for a tile-trend article in Architectural Record magazine, which earned her a Ceramics of Italy Journalism Award honorable mention in 2022.
- She adopted her first cat in 2011 and, unwilling to compromise on her home's style despite having a new feline housemate, developed a keen eye and sense for "catifying" to match one's decor.
Experience
Clipping architecture and home decor articles since her teenage years, Sheila knew for an early age where she wanted her byline to appear. She landed an assistant editor role at Interior Design magazine, working her way up to news editor before becoming the managing editor of its spring and fall market issues, where she cut her teeth on product knowledge from furniture and fabric to fixtures. She became the products and kitchen-and-bath editor for trade publication Architectural Record, and then dipped her toes in online content as a writer for architecture-community website Architizer. Since 2022, she's contributed design and home-improvement articles for print and online media outlets including The Spruce, Dwell, Metropolis, and Architect magazine.
Education
Sheila earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from New York University.
