A full-size or double bed allows solo sleepers to stretch out or provides enough room for two. Such beds consist of a mattress, box spring and frame, which you typically buy at the same time. You can then later add furnishings such as headboards and footboards as well as side tables and chests.

They are popular in children's rooms because the extra width allows room for a parent to read a bedtime story or tuck in a child.

For two people, a far more comfortable option is the queen mattress, which is 7 inches longer and 5 inches wider than the full.
