Contrary to what its name might suggest, Boy Smells' candles do not mimic the aroma of your boyfriend's gym bag.
Rather, the company, founded by two guy pals, creates candles that go beyond your basic scents — the concoctions are complex, nuanced, and based on memories or ideas. Take Mssr. Blanchy, which is named after a French colonist and includes notes of ginger, grapefruit, and tanned leather. Coin smells of copper and exotic spices. There's Lanai — featuring peppercorn, orange blossom, and coal — whose description reads, "Ancient volcanic sands extend right to the edge of sweet tropic foliage in this scent, reminding us of the lush cycle of life, death, and renewal. Return to the island."
Wow. We never realized candles could be so existential.
The extra-good news is that each candle is made from a natural blend of coconut oil, beeswax, and other all–natural waxes. But it's the packaging that really gets us — it's so perfectly Instagrammable and yet feels neither masculine or feminine. Good job, boys.
