Go Ahead, Use Black as a Defining Color Throughout Your Kitchen

Light, refreshing, and… black? Who knew! Clearly interior designer Tamara Magel was on to something when she beautifully captured 2017's inky-hued kitchen trend with this look. Turns out, it's all about striking a balance. The shade may be seen throughout the space, but it's done primarily as a detail that touches almost every furnishing that's shown. The base of the table matches the cushion of the surrounding bench, which is in turn coordinated with accenting pillows and the light fixture overhead. Even the windows appear bold, since the borders are free of shades or drapery that would otherwise add too much weight to the room. But the most impressive balancing act is done by the black-topped chairs, which are perfectly offset by natural wood legs. The end result is a design that's confident, and still, surprisingly calm.

To try this trend for yourself, start with a similar set of perfectly-balanced retro chairs.
