If you have a summer home or vacation home that you are leaving for the winter season and do not plan to return to for several months, then many areas of the home need to be winterized before you say your final farewell for the season. For example, if you leave water inside the dishwasher, it can freeze when the weather turns frigid and damage or even ruin the dishwasher. The solution is to take the time to properly winterize this appliance, along with many others in the home.
Add approximately 1/3 gallon of nontoxic antifreeze to the bottom of the dishwasher.
Run the dishwasher through one full dry cycle to circulate the antifreeze into the pump of the dishwasher.
Go through one more dry cycle with nothing inside the dishwasher.
Remove the inlet and the outlet connections from the dishwasher. These will be connected to the valve.
Find the drain hose, which is connected to the pump. Remove it and drain any remaining water.
Disconnect the power source of the dishwasher before you leave for the winter.
