The Easiest Way to Get Paint Out of Your Carpet

Painting a room that has carpet can result in paint on the carpet. Even if you cover the carpet with a cloth or newspaper, at times the paint penetrates the covering and smudges or stains the carpet. If the paint dries on the carpet, it can be very difficult to remove, and the paint may discolor the carpet's fabric. So it is important to clean up the paint before it dries on the carpet as soon as possible.

Take care while painting and remove any spilled paint from your carpet as soon as possible.

Step 1

Blot the maximum amount of paint out of the carpet with a dry cloth. Move the cloth inward from the periphery of the paint mark to avoid spreading the paint to other parts of the carpet.

Step 2

Mix a little dish detergent with one cup of warm water. Dab a little of the solution over the paint mark, working with a sponge outside in. Be careful not to spread the stain or get the carpet too wet. If the stain remains, leave the solution on for about a minute. Blot the liquid out with a dry cloth. Repeat until the paint has completely disappeared.

Step 3

Sprinkle a little club soda and some salt on the spot if it persists. Blot the liquid up and repeat the same step until the paint disappears.

Step 4

Dampen a cloth with pure alcohol and apply it to the stain, then sprinkle a little hydrogen peroxide over the spot. Scrub the surface gently with a wire brush or a scrub sponge and blot the liquid with a dry cloth. Check whether your carpet is colorfast before you try this treatment.
