Knockdown Texture is growing in popularity. It can be done by the do-it-yourself homeowner and it has the ability to hide imperfections in the wall or ceiling. Knockdown texture can be sprayed onto any wall or ceiling, then "knocked down" to resemble a low visible Stucco, hiding numerous flaws, and giving you a beautiful room. This texture is easy to apply, takes little investment, and gives your rooms an appearance that is at the same time both elegant and unique.

Spray it on and knock it down.

Step 1

Fill a clean bucket with drywall taping compound approximately 4 inches from bottom. Add 4 cups of water and mix thoroughly until your mixture is that of a pancake batter.

Step 2

Pour the mixture into the hopper. Set the compressor to 30 pounds per square inch. Hold the sprayer 2-feet from wall and spray, starting from the top and working your way down. Once at the bottom of the wall, shift over and work your way up, then move to the next wall. Make sure as you spray the other walls, that you keep an eye on the texture you have already applied. Observe the texture of the wall, and once the top of the texture turns dull, when there is no more shine to it, it is ready to be knocked down.

Step 3

Use the 12-inch drywall knife and lightly drag it across the texture. Do not apply a lot of pressure, just use a very easy drag that will give you the look you are trying to achieve. Start knocking the texture down from top to bottom. Repeat this procedure on any wall or ceiling.
