The self-cleaning feature included in some Mr. Coffee coffeemaker models helps clean the white, scaly remnants left by hard water. If your coffee has an odd taste or odor, you should clean your machine. In addition to cleaning the inside of the coffeemaker with the self-cleaning function, you should regularly clean the filter basket, coffee pot and coffee pot lid. Ensure your mornings start off right with a fresh cup of coffee made in your clean Mr. Coffee coffeemaker.
Unplug the self-cleaning Mr. Coffee maker. To avoid injury, allow it to cool off if you have recently used the machine.
Pull up the coffee maker lid on the top of the machine and remove the filter basket. Clean the filter basket, coffee pot and coffee pot lid with mild soap, such as liquid dish soap, in hot water. Reinstall the filter basket when you are finished.
Pour 4 cups of white vinegar into the water reservoir, insert a standard coffee filter in the filter basket and place the coffee pot on the warming tray.
Push the "Select" button on the Mr. Coffee control panel until the indicator light next to "Clean" turns on. The cleaning feature is automatic and brews the vinegar as if it was brewing coffee. The cleaning cycle takes about one hour.
Pour out the vinegar collected in the coffee pot, rinse out the coffee pot and fill the water reservoir with clean water. Remove the filter from the filter basket.
Press the "Select" button once so that the indicator light next to "Brew Now" turns on. The clean water will rinse the vinegar out of the machine. Dump the collected water in the coffee pot when brewing is complete. Rinse out the coffee pot.
Refill the water reservoir with clean water and run the "Brew Now" function a second time. Pour the collected water out of the coffee pot and rinse the pot.
