How to Take Apart a Maytag Neptune Dryer

The Maytag Neptune dryer is a reliable space-saving appliance. Like other appliances, however, parts will wear out over time. Servicing the Maytag Neptune dryer is less time-consuming when you know how to take apart the cabinet. When you remove the cabinet from the dryer, all the mechanical parts within the dryer are fully accessible. The average appliance owner can remove the cabinet with little difficulty.

Step 1

Unplug the Maytag Neptune dryer from the dryer electrical outlet. Pull the dryer away from the wall. Loosen the clamp that holds the dryer duct to the exhaust port on the back of the dryer with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Pull the dryer duct off of the exhaust port and away from the dryer.

Step 2

Remove the three screws at the top edge of the control console with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Grab the top edge of the control console and pull it forward to rest the face of the console on top of the Neptune.

Step 3

Use pieces of masking tape and a pencil to label each of the wires connecting to components in the console. Carefully remove the individual wires that connect to wire terminals by pulling the wire leads with a pair of needle-nose pliers. Press in on the plastic locking tabs to release the wiring harnesses, then pull the wiring harnesses off of components. Lift the control console off of the dryer top and set the console aside.

Step 4

Open the dryer door and locate the four screws on the inside lip of the door opening. Remove the screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Close the dryer door after removing the screws. Grab the sides of the front panel and pull the top of the front panel off of the dryer. Lift the front panel to release the panel from the base of the dryer. Set the front panel out of the way.

Step 5

Use a nut driver to remove the two screws that secure the hold brackets securing the top cover. The hold brackets are on the top of the dryer, where the front panel meets the top panel. Swing the brackets out and lift the top panel off of the dryer.

Step 6

Locate the wires on the front shroud and tumbler front assembly for the door switch, light switch and the sensor bar. The shroud is on the front of the dryer and attaches to the tumbler front assembly. Remove the wires by pulling them off the components.

Step 7

Use a nut driver to remove the four outer screws that secure the front shroud to the dryer. Do not remove the inner screws. Lift the front shroud off of the dryer, bringing the tumbler front assembly with the shroud.
