Turn Candlesticks Into Easy Countertop Storage With An Affordable Dollar Tree DIY

It's so easy to toss items on a countertop and walk away. But the results are often an eyesore, which doesn't help if you're trying to keep a tidy home. Fortunately, you can turn Dollar Tree finds into a stylish countertop storage shelf. Best of all? Since it's an affordable project, you won't have to empty your wallet to craft more than one. Dollar Tree's candlesticks and mirrors are the main supplies needed — along with simple materials like glue and paint. In the end, you'll have a beautiful, three-tiered tray perfect for corralling all kinds of countertop clutter. 

A DIYer demonstrated how it's all done on Hometalk's YouTube channel. To begin, take a trip to Dollar Tree and grab four of their Glass Taper Candleholders, followed by three of their black or white Hexagon Mirrors. You could also opt for Round Mirrors instead if you prefer. It should be approximately $10 in total, though prices may vary by location. The idea is to stack the pieces, with the candlesticks serving as pedestals and the mirrors doubling as trays for storage. Because the shelf has multiple levels, it makes the most of vertical space without taking up much countertop room. Not to mention, the look of it is very chic, too.

To make this countertop storage, start by attaching your candleholders together in vertical pairs. Use a mixture of an industrial-strength glue (like E6000), and hot glue, which helps provide a quicker bond. Now, decide whether or not you'd like to paint the candlesticks. You could easily transform them with black or white Apple Barrel Acrylic Paint if you want them to match the mirror frames. Or, leave the plain glass if you prefer a different look. After everything is dry, you can begin assembling the gorgeous Dollar Tree decor items. 

Squeeze industrial-strength glue onto the bottom of a candleholders — then place it in the center of a hexagon mirror. Add glue to the holder's top rim and attach a second mirror (glass facing upwards). Set a semi-heavy object on the piece (like a hardback book) to assist with bonding while it dries. Next, glue the third mirror to the top of the other candlestick pair, repeating the process above. Finally, secure it to the other piece, creating a three-level tray. Finally, wipe it clean with a soft rag and place your pretty new shelf on a countertop that could benefit from a storage solution. You could boost its glamour by embellishing the mirrors' edges with LYXMYGS Rhinestone Ribbon. 

Make it your family's new catchall tray for sunglasses, lanyards, and wallets in the kitchen or use it to hold mail that needs opening in the entry. You could also use it as an affordable DIY coffee station, and store mugs, coffee pods, and accessories on the levels. It would be really useful in the bathroom, too — especially for a collection of lotions and other bathroom essentials like rolled towels, extra toilet paper, and a toothbrush cup.
