Fancy a pumpkin Bundt? You'll appreciate the sweet seasonal treat, but you won't find it at the bakery. This particular gourd is the DIY kind and the brainchild of deewilliamson70 on TikTok. Instead of recycling worn-out bakeware, Dee decided to repurpose old pans as creative vessels for her decorative accents. And it just so happens that a Bundt pan is the perfect silhouette for a handmade pumpkin, which makes the cutest Thanksgiving decor.
While there's no shame in stocking up on autumnal paraphernalia at retailers — some would argue it's a hobby — there's something charming about creating DIY fall decor. It offers a sentimental, rustic touch and provides an exciting opportunity to watch something come to life. Dee's project checks all these boxes, and it's a straight-forward, wallet-friendly undertaking that you can personalize to your liking. (But do be warned, it can get messy.) To get started, gather your materials: two Bundt pans in the same size, Plaster of Paris, chalk paint (and brushes), E6000 Craft Adhesive, mixing containers, stirring sticks, a sanding brush, and sealer.
How to upcycle an old Bundt pan into a rustic pumpkin
To get started, apply a coat of cooking spray to each Bundt pan and wipe them down before mixing the Plaster of Paris inside according to the instructions. This little tip will make it easier to release the final product once it dries. After you've filled your pans to the same depth, give them a little shake to prevent air bubbles from forming and wait for them to dry. Once they do, you'll adhere the bottom of both pieces together evenly with E6000 and allow it to dry overnight. The next day, add spackle to fill in the seam around the perimeter and seal it before applying chalk paint. Once that dries, seal your pumpkin a final time.
To top off the rustic DIY, Dee adds cinnamon sticks and moss to the top of the pumpkin to act as the stem and vines. She utilizes an orange-white-sage green combo, but you can select any color you'd like and even paint decorative accents, if you so choose. If you want to dip into viral trends, you can go the bedazzled pumpkin DIY route for a bit of glitz and glam. Should you want to stay within the rustic aura, you can also consider applying plaid decorative paper or fabric with Mod Podge to pursue a textured route. To up the farmhouse look and embrace that cozy Thanksgiving feel, make sure your pumpkins are placed alongside greenery, natural wooden accents, and warm-toned textiles.
