The Quirky IKEA Outdoor Lamp That's A Rare Thrift Find

For decades, IKEA has been synonymous with practical, minimalist flat-pack furniture. Think of the iconic and extremely customizable BILLY bookcases; these immediately say "IKEA" as soon as you see them. More recently, the popular Swedish brand has combined functionality with fun, releasing playfully designed lights, chairs, and other household items in bold colors that stand out and double as portable pop art.

One excellent (and hotly sought-after) example is the SOLVINDEN outdoor apple-shaped lamp. Available in green and white, IKEA released them in 2015 as part of their seasonal "Summer in the City" collection. These eco-friendly solar-powered LED lamps are eye-grabbing, Pinterest-perfect alternatives to conventional lanterns and string lights, and are ideal for lovers of fresh, outside-the-box home décor.

While the IKEA outdoor apple lamp would be an excellent addition to a garden party, IKEA retired the "Summer in the City" line several years ago. This is unsurprising for a company that constantly updates its product catalogue. For example, IKEA has discontinued 9 items in 2026 so far. As a result, the outdoor apple lamp is now a collector's item that anyone would be excited to find at a thrift store.

Given that it has been discontinued, finding the SOLVINDEN apple outdoor floor lamp can be a bit of a quest. Shoppers who love the thrill of the hunt can look for the lamp at flea markets, garage sales, or thrift stores, though it may prove to be a white whale (or in this case, a white apple).

Searching the online secondary market will likely prove more fruitful, with listings for the lamp appearing on sites like Mercari and eBay. Budget-conscious buyers should know that pre-owned lamps typically sell from around $45 to $55.

The IKEA outdoor apple floor lamp is a surprisingly versatile piece of home décor. If you're fortunate enough to own one, you have many options to display it. The lamp adds style to any outdoor space, whether you want to jazz up an outdoor dining table, brighten your apartment balcony, or decorate a fantasy-themed party. Be on the lookout, because you never know where this golden apple of a lamp may turn up.
