Man Creates A Beautiful, Rustic DIY Towel Holder Out Of A Fallen Tree

When a strong storm deposits large, heavy limbs from the trees around your property, you might be annoyed by the cleanup. However, the wood is free lumber that can be turned into gorgeous, functional bathroom decor. If you're tired of basic, boring bars and racks, this budget-friendly DIY is a cuter way to hang towels. On TikTok, United Ranch posted a simple tutorial for crafting an elegant hand towel holder from a log. He sawed a hole into part of the log, from which small towels hang perfectly. The beautiful, farmhouse style feature can also double as a shelf, providing extra storage beside the sink. Alternatively, customize this DIY to make a longer towel bar where you can drape damp bath towels.

The size of the fallen tree you find outside will determine the style of your rustic way to store bathroom towels. Larger, thicker limbs are better suited for the TikTok DIYer's shelf and towel holder design. However, thinner branches make for fantastic towel bars. The unique twists, curves, and small arms branching off your tree limb add texture and a natural vibe to your space. To transform the unprocessed wood, you'll need a saw to cut a piece of the tree to the perfect size for a towel rack. Sandpaper will also be necessary to complete this project. The DIYer made this bathroom fixture more durable by sealing the wood before mounting it on the wall. A clear, water-based polyurethane sealer would work wonderfully to protect your custom wooden towel holder.

Once a tree has downed or limbs and branches are scattered across your yard, choose a section of wood that has character. United Ranch used a chainsaw to cut a large fallen tree into several pieces. The DIYer measured and trimmed a section with a unique knob to fashion the hand towel holder. He pushed the tip of the saw into the arm of the wood and wiggled it, creating a hole in the knob. This is where a towel will hang.

To allow the rounded limb to fit nicely against the wall, slice a portion off the back to make it flat. Repeat this with the top of the wood to create a shelftop. Sand the homemade towel holder, removing the bark and making sure to smooth out the inside of the hole in the wood. Otherwise, the fabric may snag. To hang the storage, the man pre-dilled two holes on each side of the bottom of the holder. Then, use long screws to finish mounting it to the wall.
