Upcycle Old Plant Saucers To Keep Your Bathroom Floors Clean

Dirt-covered plant saucers may not fit the image of a pristine, clean bathroom, but this upcycle helps keep germs off your bathroom floor. Use a flower pot saucer as the perfect storage spot for the toilet plunger. Any old plant saucer will do as long as it is as wide or wider than the toilet plunger.

TikTok user mamma_y demonstrates how she uses a heavy-duty plastic saucer to hold her toilet plunger beside the toilet and in the closet. The plunger rests on top of the saucer, preventing a wet, germ-filled ring on the bathroom floor. The 6-inch saucer is the same width as the plunger, and she balances the plunger on it easily. The plunger can be stored in a closet or storage space without dripping gross toilet water everywhere.

Have a saucer larger than 6 inches? Upcycled saucers can also hold important bathroom cleaning supplies within easy reach, or use a larger saucer to hold both the plunger and the toilet brush holder on the same plate to keep floors dry. It's an easy solution for a drier, cleaner floor.

How to upcycle your own saucer into toilet plunger holder

Choose your saucer. There are benefits to each one, and this upcycle works with them all. For a splash of color, ceramic plant saucers have style and can subtly match bathroom decor. Terra cotta saucers absorb water, offering extra floor protection. An upcycled plastic saucer is easy to clean and sanitize with germ-killing cleaners when it comes time to deep-clean the bathroom. (And remember there's a difference between cleaning and sanitizing; for bathrooms, it's all about keeping things sanitized and healthy.)

If you're using a terra cotta pot saucer, clean it with cool or lukewarm water (not boiling, or it may crack) and a mild soap or citric acid to remove the dirt and mineral deposits that may have built up over time. You can also paint your saucer to spruce it up, or upgrade a boring planter into a DIY mosaic to add character to an overlooked space. Give plastic or ceramic saucers a simple soapy wash to remove dirt, and place them beside your toilet. Voila! An upcycled old saucer now makes your bathroom cleaner.
