Things You'll Need

  • Spray bottle

  • Vinegar

  • Baking soda

  • Water

  • Paper towels

Clean your gym equipment with a homemade disinfectant.

Workout equipment quickly accumulates odor and bacteria through regular use. When not cleaned properly after each use, the bacteria that has developed on the equipment will be contracted from one user to the next, creating a dangerous situation. To keep the equipment clean, it should be disinfected after each use. There are several retail disinfectant products, but a homemade disinfectant can be less expensive and just as effective.

Step 1

Pour 1 cup white vinegar and 1/2 cup baking soda into a spray bottle. Pour 2 cups hot water into the spray bottle as well, which will dissolve the baking soda quickly. Twist the lid onto the bottle and shake to combine the ingredients.

Step 2

Spray the homemade cleaner onto a paper towel, then wipe the equipment clean. The vinegar will disinfect while the baking soda will deodorize. Wipe down not only the handles, but also the buttons, the switches and any other area of the machine that you were in contact with.

Step 3

Repeat after each use, and let the machine air-dry after cleaning.
