Clean your carpet with laundry detergent.

Carpets often require a deep cleaning treatment that a vacuum cleaner alone will not achieve. While the vacuum collects loose dirt, it does not actually clean the carpet fibers themselves. Laundry detergent is designed to clean many types of fabric, from clothing to carpeting. The detergent will actually wash the carpet, leaving it fresh and free of residue.

Step 4

Place the canister into the steam cleaning unit and turn on the machine. Allow to heat for five minutes.

Step 5

Move the steam-cleaning unit across the carpet as though you were vacuuming. Remember to move a bit more slowly than you would with a vacuum, as you want to allow time to penetrate the carpet with the steam and cleaning solution.
