If your bathroom feels overly cold and clinical, prescription pill bottles offer a surprising way to create whimsical wall art that truly embraces the theme of self-care. So much of modern decor is minimalist with neural colors like white or gray, but this DIY adds color and texture to your bathroom with a fun twist. On TikTok, creator thickjewishgirl showed off how bedazzled pill bottles reinvented her bathroom. By covering the orange plastic bottles in vibrant rhinestones and mounting them to the wall, the DIYer made bathroom wall decor that looks like an art installation.
The craft of bedazzling pill bottles is nothing new, and is often used to embrace mental health awareness. To turn this project into fitting bathroom wall decor, you'll need to upcycle several empty pill bottles. The DIYer used nine bottles, though you could opt for more or less to alter the size. In some cases, this wall art could double as nifty bathroom storage, turning empty prescription bottles into mini organizers.
While she didn't reveal how she secured the bottles to the wall, it should be easy to hang the lightweight plastic containers. Mounting putty or products like Command Strips could attach the bedazzled pill bottles to your wall without damaging the paint or wallpaper. On Amazon, a pack of Gorilla Mounting Putty is about $5. For this clever way to reuse empty prescription bottles, you'll need a strong adhesive like B7000 glue, sandpaper, rhinestones of various colors, and a rhinestone applicator tool.
How to create bathroom wall art from pill bottles
In her video, the DIYer showed off her finished bathroom wall decor, featuring three rows of three bedazzled prescription bottles on the wall adjacent to the sink. She used a few colors, including pink, green, yellow, blue and silver gems to style the leftover bottles. Each medication container was covered in rhinestones of one color, though some had two similar colors.
The DIYer left the plastic lids bare and allowed some of the orange plastic to peek through the gems, accentuating the prescription bottle aesthetic. However, bedazzle your pill bottles to fit your style. Consider covering the lids as well as the bottles, or create cute patterns with different colors. Opt for rhinestones of different sizes to give dimension to your artwork. Beads with letters could also be used to incorporate words, like medication names, into the design.
Before placing the rhinestones, remove the labels from the empty prescription bottles. Sanding the outside of the plastic helps the gems to adhere better. Starting at the top, apply an even line of glue around the bottle. Then, use the rhinestone tool to place each gem in the first row. Repeat this process until the plastic is covered.
If you use something like velcro Command strips to mount the decor, you'll be able to easily remove and replace the bottles. This creates functional decor to hide small essentials like Q-tips, bobby pins, or hair ties right where you need them.
