Old prescription bottles are typically single-use products. Once a prescription runs out, most people toss the neon orange containers, as there doesn't seem to be anything else you can do with them. However, there are many clever ways to upcycle these plastic bottles, including a creative idea from Loli Ds Creations. This YouTuber transformed pill bottles into a glamorous floral centerpiece tray for shelves, tables, and countertops.

This DIY centerpiece only requires seven pill bottles, seasonal artificial foliage, a spool of ribbon, and a small embossed plate or candleholder from the Dollar Tree, such as the Luminessense Glass Plate Candleholder. In addition to these materials, you'll need Titebond Quick & Thick Multi-Surface Glue or another multi-surface super glue and Rust-Oleum Metallic Spray Paint. Fortunately, the glue and spray paint are common crafting materials, so you may already have them on hand. You'll also need a pair of pliers and, possibly, a hair dryer to prep the prescription bottles for crafting.

In addition to requiring very few materials, this creative prescription bottle idea is a great way to decorate upscale, modern spaces on a budget. Not including the original cost of your prescriptions, it should cost less than $20 to complete. In fact, it'll cost even less if you already have the spray paint and super glue. The floral centerpiece is doable in a day, even when accounting for paint-drying time, making it a quick and stylish way to upgrade your space.

How to design a beautiful flower centerpiece from empty prescription bottles

This idea is only glamorous if you completely disguise the old prescription containers. Start by removing the pill bottle labels with a hair dryer method, then snip off the plastic safety rims with a pair of pliers. Swirl a thin coat of the Titebond, or another multi-surface glue, to the bottom of one of the pill containers and stick it in the middle of the glass dish. Apply glue to the other six bottles, arrange them in a circle around the middle one, and let them sit for 10 to 15 minutes while waiting for the glue to dry.

Next, spray paint the finished project with at least two coats of metallic spray paint. Wait for one hour after the first coat before applying the second. The original DIYer used gold paint for a glamorous effect, but you should use any metallic finish that best complements your space. Keep in mind that mixing metal tones is a great way to add texture and avoid a boring, monochromatic look in your space.

Once the paint is dry, finish off the look with a spool of ribbon around the top, and stock the individual pill bottles with flowers that represent the current season. The Dollar Tree often carries seasonal-inspired foliage for around $1.50 each, making it easy to finish off this design while keeping to a small budget. If you want the centerpiece to be both aesthetic and functional, take a little inspiration from the DIY that turns empty prescription bottles into adorable mini organizers and use the individual bottles to house small crafting materials. It can also be used to stow makeup brushes in a glamorous bathroom, or to house writing utensils on a desk in a classy, modern home office, with the florals hiding the supplies from view.
