Do you have some clothespins in a drawer that could use a new purpose? Not just for laundry, clothespins can be transformed into the cutest decor with a little imagination. Case in point: this craft from Manda Panda Projects, where clothespins are used to create a happy sunflower sign. The clothespins themselves become the petals, and other supplies help bring the piece together. Keep it for yourself, or give it to someone who could use some joy and positivity in their day. After all, cheering people up is something sunflowers are known for doing!

You'll need approximately two dozen clothespins for the DIY. If you're running low, you can grab a pack on Amazon, like these JABINCO Wooden Clothespins. A small wood round is also required (it'll be the sunflower's center). For example, you could use William Craft Natural Wood Slices. The final items on the supply list are glue, paint, wooden paint stir sticks, wire, and crafting embellishments. After gathering everything, cover a large surface and prepare to dive into the floral decor DIY.

Make a charming sunflower sign out of clothespins

Begin by separating your clothespins and tossing the metal springs. Turn each set of prongs so their backs are lined up, then glue them together. Next, form a circle out of the clothespins with their pointy ends facing inwards. Once you're happy with the design, glue the wood round in the center to hold them in place. Add cardboard to the back if you want to make it sturdier. You can now paint the petals yellow and the center brown, making it officially look like a sunflower.

The next step is to create a base for your flower out of paint stirrers. Line several sticks up in a row and glue them together (the DIYer used 7). Now, make it look like a fence by attaching horizontal pieces across the top and bottom. Paint or stain the base. After it's dry, use an industrial-strength glue like E6000 to secure the sunflower to the middle of the "fence." Glue a piece of wire (or rope) to the back to serve as a hanger. At this point, it should look like an adorable piece of farmhouse wall decor.

Upgrade your sunflower decor

Although it's possible to end the project at this point, why not add embellishments instead? Wooden beads, buttons, and a checkered bow would all complement the look. Or, go bold and bedazzle the center with brown sequins. You could also add a sweet message to the fence (similar to the crafter) with these DODHEG Wood Letter Tiles. Consider using words of kindness and cheer to match the sunflowers' symbolism. Another idea is to attach salbsever Round Plastic Hooks along the sign's bottom. That way, you can use the piece for hanging keys, necklaces, or lanyards.

You could also take a different approach with your clothespin flower. Skip attaching it to a base, and create a garden stake out of it instead. Use heavy-duty glue to secure the flower to a long, wooden dowel that's painted green. Tie a matching piece of fabric around the rod to become its leaves. Finally, stake it deep into a potted plant to ensure it stays upright. Let's just call it a twist on growing your own sunflowers!
