Tiny planters make an adorable countertop decoration or windowsill accent, and there are plenty on the market. However, if you're feeling crafty, this cute DIY from TikToker Sally Rodero will help you make one of your own from just a few household items you likely already have around: a glass jar and some extra laundry clothespins. This is a quick and simple craft you can comfortably do in an afternoon, and it is easy to duplicate over and over until you have enough for all your plants.

The best part about this project is just how few items it requires. All you'll need are a small glass jar, several wooden clothespins — available for just $7.60 on Amazon if you don't already have some — a hot glue gun, and some jute twine. That's it! You will want to make sure that your glass jar is shorter than your clothespins for this design to work, so it's best to opt for a smaller jar and make sure to measure it before choosing your pins.

How to make your jar planter

To create the little planters, start by removing any labels or stickers from the glass. This can usually be done by soaking the jars in hot, soapy water, but if some spots are a little stubborn, Goof Off will be able to handle the rest. Next, disassemble the clothespins by removing the wire binding so that you're left with the individual pieces of wood.

Use the glue gun to lay strips of hot glue vertically along the glass jar, and lay the wooden pins side by side, wrapping around the jar, until it looks almost like a barrel. Once you've covered the entire surface, lay a line of hot glue in the two indentations of the clothespins, and then wrap the jute twine around the jar, nestled into these niches.

To customize the design, you can paint the planters in a color of your choice. If you've made multiple planters, you can mix up your color scheme, choosing different shades of the same color, or opting for a rainbow of different hues to add a fun visual element to wherever you're putting the planters. Given their size, these cute planters are the perfect vessel for herbs on your kitchen counter or small indoor succulents on your windowsill. Just remember to include a layer of stones at the bottom of your glass jar before you layer in the soil to ensure the plants have proper drainage.
