A classic snow globe captures the comforting feeling of looking out on a winter landscape from the confines of a warm home. Swap out the snowflakes in the decor piece for swirling autumn leaves, however, and you'll create an entirely different scene that's equally inviting and arguably more unique. This sort of DIY is definitely on the beginner-friendly side — you can get a quick look at how easy it is to complete thanks to a short video from clarehooper on Instagram. In the tutorial, the content creator takes a plain glass jar and glues a stick and some pinecones to its lid to create a small tree. She then fills the jar with cold boiled water, some vegetable glycerin, and tiny autumn leaves before gluing the decorated lid into place. The result of her project is definitely one of those rustic fall decor ideas that are the definition of cozy.

To make the tiny autumn leaves for the inside of her globe, Clare Hooper gathered up some real leaves and then used a maple-leaf-shaped hole punch on them. A product like this BiraBira Maple Leaf Punch for Scrapbooking should do the trick if you're interested in replicating this DIY. You'll also need hot glue and a large cork for holding your stick-tree in place. Though it may seem obvious, you should also make sure that the glass jar you select for this project has a reliable seal. A fall-themed globe, though small, is a great decor piece to have if you're interested in designing a cottagecore space with autumnal magic.

How to make a fall-themed snow globe

The first step in this project is going out into your backyard and gathering up some autumnal leaves, as well as a small stick for the globe's tree. If you soak them all in glycerin for a few days, you might be able to better preserve them. If the season hasn't changed yet where you live, you could use faux autumn garland leaves for this DIY, or a pack of MARFOREVER Fall Glitter Confetti. Trim the stick to the preferred size with pruning shears, attach it to its cork base, and hot glue the cork to the underside of your jar's lid. You can then place tiny acorns or pinecones around the tree to complete the scene. Once that's done, use your hole punch on your leaves.

Next, boil some water, let it cool, and fill your jar up most of the way with it. You can skip the boiling and cooling process by using distilled water. Add approximately a tablespoon of glycerin to the water, and mix in your small autumn leaves. You could throw in some glitter as well if you'd like to give the decor piece a shinier look. Gluing a few glycerin-soaked leaves directly to your tree is definitely also a nice customization option here, as is putting some small fall-themed stickers on the outside of the jar. Use hot glue to seal the jar's lid, and wait for it to dry before flipping it over or shaking it. With this project done, you can turn your attention toward decorating your front door for fall.
