Does it ever seem like you don't have enough storage for your Blackstone griddle gadgets? Sure, the griddle itself comes equipped with folding side shelves, a magnetic tool bar, and a paper towel holder, but when it comes to the middle shelf, frankly, there's just not enough room. So, what do you do to optimize your outdoor storage and organization? Well, a couple on social media have attracted 3 million views for their clever, DIY storage solution that utilizes some basic, affordable components you can find at Home Depot.

Blackstone grill owner Kendall Azevedo posted to Facebook Reels a video of her husband constructing drawer units for their grill using plastic tubs and sliding drawer rails. Removing the middle shelf of their Blackstone, Azevedo's husband measures out the rail spacing and attaches two sets of rail brackets to the shelf using screws. He then connects the sliding rails to the plastic tubs. Once the tub drawers are fully assembled, they reattach the middle shelf to the Blackstone.

While it's an effective DIY, Azevedo does point out that there will be exposed screws sticking up out of the middle shelf. She hides these with the tub covers, but you could probably find more artful ways to do this using a metal sheet or upcycle pallet wood to make a little shelf. Overall, however, this is a fine DIY that doesn't cost much, and makes the Blackstone all the more efficient with the additional storage.

Adding drawers to your Blackstone is cost effective and efficient

One thing that needs to be noted before you try the Azevedo's DIY for yourself is that the materials they used were measured and fitted to their specific Blackstone model. This may be different than the one you have, but you can still use their DIY as an inspirational blueprint. Still, whether you end up adding or removing a drawer based on your own measurements, you aren't going to be sinking a ton of money into this project.

Based on the Facebook Reel, we know that the Azevedos used the Home Depot HDX 7-gallon Tough Storage Totes ($7.48) and the VEVOR 14-inch Drawer Slides, which come in packs of 6 ($36.99) with hardware included. All told, for the two totes and drawer slides, it will cost less than $60 to add storage to your Blackstone.

The Azevedo's reel also shows how much they are able to fit in their DIY drawers, including, but not limited to, backyard grill accessory essentials like spatulas, portable trays, cleaning supplies, and what appear to be all the components of the Blackstone 4-piece Professional Breakfast kit, which includes a pancake batter dispenser, two egg rings, and a bacon press. However, since this DIY solution isn't 100% sealed against the elements, there's the possibility that pests or rain can get into them, so keep that in mind, and never store any food items inside your new storage compartments.
