Ditch Bulky Bins: IKEA Has A Smarter Way To Help Organize Cleaning Products

Bins and caddies are a good way to organize cleaning products. However, then you're stuck with hiding away the often-unaesthetic storage vessel. That's why finding a nice-looking and spacious storage solution is such a gem. IKEA has a product that fits the bill: the GÅRDSBUTIK Bin with Lid. Technically, the brand designed this as a recycling bin, but it can be used for much more. It's gone viral on TikTok for exactly that, with videos repurposing it as pet kibble storage, shoe storage, and a laundry sorting station in a small bathroom, to name a few. It's no surprise really that there's yet another use for it: to store cleaning products.

This is a plastic, wall-mounted bin. It hinges open using a handle at the top, revealing the 6-gallon capacity within. Overall, it measures 18 inches tall, 14 ⅛ inches wide, and 7 ⅞ inches deep. Sized to accommodate bottles and cans, it also fits cleaning products nicely. The silhouette is slimmer than many bulky storage bins, and most notably, it looks nicer. It has a minimalist appearance, typical of IKEA, in a beige color and with a slightly fluted design on the outside. Since it's designed for recycling, the entire bin can detach from the wall mount. Originally, that feature makes it easy to dump recycling into curbside bins and clean out any spills. As cleaning storage, you can carry around the bin like a caddy.

There are two downsides of using this product for cleaning storage, however. The bin is a bit deep, so some items might need to be stacked on top of each other. However, this configuration can be worth it for the more aesthetic look. It also doesn't include mounting hardware, and you'll have to figure out what kind of mount you want to use. Cleaning product bottles can be heavy, so if you're worried about the weight, you can use it to store some of the essential tools for deep cleaning a house instead. 

Also, it's not necessary to mount it on a wall. The units are stackable on the floor, but know that they're quite tall, so they're not very stable in this configuration. You'd want to only use the top bin for lightweight items, like cleaning cloths and rolls of paper towels. Or, if you reduce your cleaning repertoire to only the expert-recommended cleaning supplies you really need, you can just stick to one bin.

IKEA shoppers are happy with this product overall, rating it 4.8 stars from over 500 reviews at the time of writing. Buyers appreciate it for its sleek design, quality, and functionality. As one comment on IKEA website says: "Easy to hang, looks unassuming, provides space on top if needed, the bin itself is extremely easy to pull out when taking the trash out etc." It's a practical pick for organizing.
