He Transforms Wood Pallets Into A Stunning Dining Table
Finding a gorgeous wooden dining table for an affordable price may seem like an impossible dream. Instead of perusing furniture stores, if you're in the market for a new table but need a budget-friendly option, consider DIYing your next dining room table out of old pallets. By repurposing pallet boards, TikToker Jesper Makes constructed a sleek, stylish dining table. Building this pallet table should be fairly simple, and you can customize the design of the tabletop to suit your space, your taste, and your needs, whether you're looking for a table for a dining room or a patio. With some wood glue and wood screws, your new table will come together in a snap. Sanding equipment and saws may also be necessary to modify the used wood for your project.
Because you and your guests will be eating at this table, you'll need to be selective about what kind of pallets you use. Some wood pallets are treated with chemicals such as pesticides, so inspect the wood for markings that read "MB," indicating that the wood has been treated with methyl bromide. Instead, heat-treated pallets (marked with "HT") are a safer option that doesn't contain chemicals. Though there are lots of places to find free pallets, the wood sometimes comes into contact with bacteria, so be careful of where you're getting the wood and mindful of what it might have touched.
How to build a charming wood pallet dining table
To upcycle old wood pallets into a table, TikToker Jesper Makes pulled apart the pallets and removed all the nails from the wood. The DIYer clamped several together and put them through a benchtop planer to make the boards more uniform. Alternatively, you can plane your planks by hand, but ensure they're the same thickness. These boards will form your tabletop and should be identical in size. Now, cut notches into the long, narrow sides of the pallet boards. Fix the planks together side by side by inserting wood screws and glue into the holes. This could complete your tabletop, if you're looking for a simple, rustic design. However, Jesper Makes cut the connected boards into sections, and secured perpendicular boards between for a more intricate pattern.

On the underside of the table, screw a support board onto each long side. This will allow you to attach the legs. Cut thinner boards to create intersecting legs: Screw together two X-shaped pieces for table legs and cut the ends of these planks at an angle, so they sit flush against the tabletop and the floor. Attach two more diagonal boards to the bottom of the table, connecting the center of each X to the tabletop. For easier legs, simply screw four to six planks perpendicularly to the support beams. Finally, the DIYer scorched and sealed the wood for a dark, dramatic look. Otherwise, you can simply paint or stain the pallets before sealing the table.
