A simple glass vase, doily, rolling pin, knife, pack of clay, and a little paint are all the DIYer used for this project. This candle holder is very easy to make, and there are so many ways to design it. Since you're crafting this holder from scratch, you'll be able to shape the clay for a truly custom dish. Katerina opted for air-drying clay. Though other types of clay, such as polymer clay, will work for this project, they may need to be baked to harden. Making a beautiful candle holder with a doily and clay
To transform vintage doilies into the sweetest home decor, start by rolling out the clay. Use a rolling pin to thin out the material until it's a rough circle that's approximately ¼ inch thick. Now, lay your doily over the clay, spreading it out flat. With your rolling pin, gently press the fabric into the modeling clay to transfer its beautiful design. While the original DIYer only made one side of the dish textured, you could repeat this process with the other side of the clay as well. Carefully peel the fabric away from the clay, revealing the three-dimensional pattern. Cut away the rough edges of the clay around the doily's markings with a sharp knife.

Choose a cylindrical glass vase that fits your candle. (You'd eventually set it in the center of the holder to catch wax droplets, making cleanup easy.) Set the vase upside down to act as the mold for your clay. Consider wrapping it in plastic wrap to prevent the wet clay from sticking to the glass. Drape your patterned clay over the glass, aligning the center of the clay with the bottom of the vase. You can work the clay to create wavy sides and edges for the bowl or go a different direction and shape the candle holder however you like. After using the oven to speed up the drying process, the DIYer painted the edges of the white candle holder gold and placed the glass and candle inside.
