Things aren't always what they seem. In fact, sometimes, they're better. This is a mantra DIYers know well when fiddling with objects and giving them a new lease on life. They understand that all items have multiple functions, it just takes a fresh perspective to see their vision come together. One crafter on TikTok decided to repurpose her Dollar Tree décor haul into a chic shelving unit with major personality.

Though it be but little, the corner wall storage system from yoduvhessentials on TikTok is fierce. While most shoppers will opt for Dollar Tree baskets to organize their space, this user unexpectedly took picture frames and a chalkboard to create a custom-built storage unit in a spot that was likely overlooked. Like other clever DIY storage solutions, the project has its perks: It's cost-effective, easy to put together, and the details of the finished product is completely up to you. If these winning combinations have piqued your interest, here's how to recreate this clever DIY in your own home.

How Dollar Tree chalkboards became chic storage

Skip the Dollar Tree organizational finds and, instead look out a few picture frames like the Special Moments Dual-Photo Frame ($1.25) and a First Day of School Chalkboard ($1.25). TikTok user Yoduvhessentials starts by taking apart the chalkboard so she's left with triangular pieces.  Then, she takes her picture frames, removes their backs, and adds two L-shaped brackets at the bottom to piece together the frame and the triangular pieces, which she'll ultimately place in the corner of the wall. After using a level to keep things even, she drills small wooden blocks into the wall to support her structures. From there, it's a matter of stacking the crafts securely, drilling where necessary, and watching the piece come together, adhering a few decorative accents like sparkly gems along the way.

Once the crafter's corner wall storage system is complete, she decorates the chrome accents with glass perfume bottles, faux plants, and lights to showcase her display. A shelving unit like this can be particularly handy near the front door as a catch-all for things like keys and dog leashes, while still leaving room for a few playful touches. Try styling the unit with small vases and frames to add a personal touch.
