Borax, or sodium metaborate, mixed with water creates a stable solution with a variety of uses. Cleaning agents, weed killers and slime all start with a borax solution. Dissolving borax in water takes some patience, as it does not readily mix with water at cool temperatures. After dissolution, borax particles will again separate from the water if left sitting for extended periods.
Step 1
Measure one cup of hot tap water with a measuring cup. Pour the measured amount of water into a plastic container.

Measure one teaspoon of borax with a measuring spoon. Slowly pour the borax into the plastic container. Stir the solution vigorously with a large spoon. Add another two teaspoons to the solution, stirring vigorously after adding each teaspoon of borax.
Step 3
Stir until all the borax is dissolved in the water. Allow the solution to cool for two hours.
Step 4
Check the solution to ensure that the water absorbed all the borax. Stir the solution if any borax settled to the bottom of the plastic container.
