When you rely on your dishwasher for daily cleaning tasks, soap residue and rust can build up on the internal components. Dishwasher cleaners are effective on soap residue but not typically effective on calcium, hard water or rust build up. Use CLR (calcium, lime, and rust) cleaning solution in a dishwasher cycle for a thorough cleaning as needed. Rinse the dishwasher thoroughly after a CLR cleaning to prevent cleaning residue from depositing on your dishes.
Empty all dishes from the dishwasher. Start with an empty dishwasher to get the best results.
Start the dishwasher so that it fills up with water. When the dishwasher is close to half-full, pour 1/2 cup of CLR into the water. Run the dishwasher through a complete cleaning cycle.
Run the dishwasher through another cleaning cycle to rinse any residual CLR from the internal components before washing any dishes.
