You need a sharp Cobalt drill bit to make cutting easier and the holes perfect. Depending on the task and whether you are drilling through wood, steel, iron or titanium, the drill bits come in a variety of sizes and angle points. Cobalt drill bits have a high resistance to heat, making them perfect for repeated use. But after a while, the cutting edge becomes dull and needs sharpening. If you have a bench grinder, you can sharpen the bits on your own.

Protect your eyes from flying bits of steel by putting on a pair of safety glasses.

Turn the bench grinder on, setting it to a low speed.
Step 3
Grasp the drill bit at the smooth end with your fingers and examine the drilling edge. Find the point at the end and notice how the conical shape is surrounded by ridges.
Step 4
Tighten your hold on the drill bit and bring it toward the grinder. Hold the bit at a 60-degree angle and lightly touch the grinder with the sloped side of the conical top. Pull the bit away from the grinding wheel for a moment, and then repeat the sharpening process. Continue sharpening the sides of the conical top.
Step 5
Test the sharpness of the drill bit with your fingers. If the bit isn't sharp enough, repeat the process. Don't grind away too much of the drill bit or the drill bit is ruined.
