Stainless steel is an alloy or composite metal made from iron and chromium and small amounts of other metals. The chromium in the stainless steel oxidizes to create a film around the metal that is highly resistant to stains. This doesn't mean, however, that your stainless steel will repel all stains. In some cases, food or other substances can stain your stainless steel stove. When this happens, it is vital to avoid harsh cleaning solutions and abrasive cleaning tools, which can remove the stainless steel's protective oxide layer.
Add just enough liquid dish soap to 1/2 cup of baking soda to make a paste. The paste should be the consistency of frosting.

Apply the paste to the stainless steel stove, and rub it into the stain. Rub in a circular motion. Baking soda is particularly useful when cleaning stubborn stains because it acts as a very mild abrasive that will work away at the stain, yet not damage the stainless steel.
Soak a clean cloth is clear water, and wipe it over the area to rinse away the stain and baking soda residue.
Immediately dry the area completely with a clean cloth to prevent the water from drying and leaving marks on the stainless steel.
If you notice any fingerprints or water streaks, dip a clean cloth in white vinegar.
Rub the cloth over the fingerprints to remove them.
