If your kitchen drawers turn into a tangle of utensils, cutlery, and jars the moment you slide them open, you're not alone. Loose items shift around and bury each other, and you can end up digging through the mess just to find your favorite teaspoon or cumin powder mid-recipe. While store-bought dividers can fix this problem, they're often pricey and might not always fit your drawer's exact size. To solve this problem, Hometalk shared a budget-friendly fix on its Facebook page. Simply measure your drawer's dimensions and cut Dollar Tree's poster boards into custom-sized dividers and trays. They used this to keep mini spice jars organized but this hack can work for a lot of other kitchen items.

Beyond saving money (the poster boards cost a mere $0.50) , the idea also lets you customize the look of your organizer. Plus, this Dollar Tree DIY is also can a cuter way to organize your drawers, as you can easily embellish the dividers using contact paper. Better yet, the board is easy to trim per your drawer's dimensions and it'll hold everything firmly in its own space, so they don't move about when you open or close your kitchen drawers. The best part, though? You don't need to spend much time DIYing this organizer or have any special tools. Just grab a ruler, utility knife, tape measure, and a few sheets of the poster board to corral the mess in your drawers. You'll also need your trusty hot glue guns to help the sections hold their shape.

How to make custom drawer dividers from Dollar Tree poster boards

Start by emptying your kitchen drawer to clean its inside with a damp microfiber cloth. While at it, wipe down the jars you took out as well (or if you're dealing with cutlery and the like, give them a proper wash), so they're squeaky clean when you put them back. Now, categorize them. If you want to donate or trash some items, now is the time to declutter and reorganize. Once you've decided what stays, move on to arranging the items you intend to keep inside this drawer to map out an ideal layout. Once you finish this step, get a tape measure and start jotting down the dimensions of your drawer. Afterwards, realize your childhood dreams of becoming an architect (but on a smaller scale) by planning where the divider walls in the organizer go.

With the plan ready, get your Dollar Tree poster boards and mark the required dimensions using a ruler or yardstick. Then, use your utility knife to slice them all the way through per the drawn lines. In case you find it difficult to get clean cuts upon the first try, bend your board along the scored lines to separate the pieces cleanly. Repeat this process until you have all the pieces. Decorating the pieces is optional, but if you have some leftover contact paper for kitchen cabinets, you could adhere that to the poster boards to turn your divider fancy. Finally, grab your hot glue gun and attach the pieces together in the shape you want. There are multiple ways of arranging items inside the drawer. You could create slanted tiers for organizing spices with pretty jars and printable labels in a neat row. Another option is to fit strips vertically into grooves to create separate compartments.
