Cover A Pizza Pan With Paint & Clothespins To Create The Cutest Decor For Your Walls
A naked wall can make your space feel cold and empty. However, nothing creates an inviting home better than a wealth of vibrant artwork that showcases your personality. Photo prints, paintings, and custom framing services can all be extremely expensive and may not in the budget when it comes to your interior design. Fortunately, with this clever craft from YouTube creator Blessings Craft Therapy, you can create a stunning piece of wall decor with a pizza pan and clothespins that resembles a striking sunflower. Plus, this Dollar Tree wall art DIY is a fun weekend project for crafters of every skill set.
To recreate the sunflower design, you'll need a 16-inch Pizza Pan from Dollar Tree. You'll also need clothespins, like Mr. Pen's Large 50-Pack, which you can find on Amazon for about $6. The YouTuber uses the FolkArt Home Décor Acrylic Chalk Paint in java, black chalkboard paint, and another acrylic formula in a cheerful, sunflower gold color. You'll also need an assortment of paintbrushes, a paint sponge, and a cup for mixing your paint. A hole punch, a hot glue gun, some twine for hanging, and some faux sunflowers are used to assemble and finish the design.
How to create your sunflower
Start by wiping down your pizza pan to remove any dust or dirt and then apply the black chalkboard paint. Once the entire surface is covered, use a sponge to dab the paint around, creating a matte finish. Next, fill the Ziploc bag with a solution of slightly watered-down gold acrylic paint, and pop your clothespins in, sloshing them around until they are completely covered. Remove the clothespins and wipe off any excess paint with a paper towel, then lay them out so they can dry. Using a paintbrush and the black acrylic chalk paint, paint just the tips of the clothespins. While your clothespins are drying, return to the pizza pan and punch two holes in the top, about 6 inches apart. Thread your twine through the holes and knot it to create a loop from which you can hang your sunflower.
To add the petals, affix your clothespins around the circumference using the hot glue gun. Position the clothespins at varying depths to give it a more organic look. Finally, use your glue gun to affix the faux sunflowers and any other faux plant life in a decorative cluster.
Keep in mind, there's no rule that says you have to make a sunflower! For example, white could be used to make a daisy-like design or you could go with light purple to emulate asters. If you'd like a festive take for holiday decor, use metallic spray paint to coat the clothespins and swap out the flowers for seasonal stems.
