When visiting any suburban neighborhood, you're likely to see floral wreaths decorating more than one door. They may be an easy go-to when decorating, but there are also much cuter ways to dress up front doors without using traditional wreaths. Ditch this stale idea for a simple Dollar Tree DIY sign instead. The YouTuber So Fontsy shared an easy idea that only slightly deviates from the look of a traditional wreath. They made a circular welcome sign that provides unique curb appeal without being too flashy.
This DIY is easier to assemble from scratch than a wreath, as it's nowhere near as tedious as weaving and sticking individual artificial foliage pieces into a foam or wire ring. It's also very budget-friendly, especially if you use embellishments from Dollar Tree. The original DIYer decorated a round pizza pan, customizing it to fit their home and the current season. Their finished design has a cozy, rustic aesthetic with a plaid pattern, braided twine, and artificial hydrangeas. However, if you're going for a different theme or want a sign better suited for other upcoming seasons, put your own creative spin on the idea.
No matter which aesthetic route is taken, this project requires a similar collection of materials. It uses a Cooking Concepts Tin Pizza Pan, acrylic craft paint, a "welcome" vinyl pattern, artificial foliage, and other decorative embellishments. Most of these items are found at dollar stores, making it easy to keep the project low-cost.
How to craft this easy Dollar Tree DIY for front doors
Start the project by removing the label from the dollar store pizza pan using an easy DIY solution to remove sticker residue: white vinegar. Paint the pan in the color of your choice. It may take several coats to fully cover the matte tin finish. You can use So Fontsy's Welcome With Plaid Bottom Farmhouse Sign or find another vinyl welcome sign that fits within the pizza pan's 12-inch diameter.
Keep in mind that So Fontsy's design doesn't come with an adhesive backing, and other options may not have this convenient feature. Simply use a sheet of vinyl transfer tape, like HTVRONT Transfer Tape, to apply letters and patterns without any bumps or wrinkles. Use painter's tape to hold the stickers in place as you slowly apply the design with transfer tape, and flatten it with a decal squeegee, like the Teckwrap Professional Squeegee Tool. Finish off the look by hot-gluing a braided rope around the pan for a rustic look. However, you could also use wooden beads, a floral garland, or another border for a different aesthetic effect. Balance out the look by adding an arrangement of seasonal foliage at the top. Hot-glue a ribbon or twine to the back so you can hang the finished piece on a hook in the same way you hang a traditional wreath.
This idea can also be combined with other alternative exterior decorating ideas, like this idea to decorate your door for fall. There's no need to stop after pinning up the welcome sign. Add other splashes of decor by stringing a garland around the door arch, arranging a pair of baskets or planters on either side of the front door, and finding other ways to subtly upgrade your entryway.
