Curtains can play an important role in your space, bringing in warmth, texture, light filtration, and privacy, especially at night. However, sometimes it can be difficult to figure out how to incorporate the textiles. If traditional curtain rods aren't your style, a clever design hack might be just the thing to spruce up your space. Think outside the box and hang curtains with cabinet knobs as a unique alternative. This creates a fun visual focal point in your space while also allowing you to use curtains to elegantly frame your windows.
Cabinet pulls come in a wide variety of styles to suit the aesthetic of your space and can be a creative alternative to traditional rails and rods. No matter your style, from vintage to contemporary, there's a wide selection of designs you can play around with. If you're more of a traditionalist, subdued designs like Nizado's Aged Brass Knobs are a simple option. However, if you want to make a statement with something more modern, look for subtle details in a matte finish, like Ravinte's Black Square Knobs. Whatever style you choose, keep in mind the fact that you'll need several knobs for each side of the window when you're considering pricing.
Installing your cabinet knob curtains
Once you're ready to install your knobs, use a pencil to mark the placement for each one, and use a ruler to make sure the spacing between them is even. You will likely want to use drywall anchors to ensure a stable backing for the knobs. So, use your markings as a guide, take a drill and make holes deep enough for the anchors, and screw them in until they are flat against the wall. This step may require a hammer if you struggle to insert the anchors. Next, take hanger bolts that fit your chosen knobs and screw them into the back of them before screwing them into the anchors in your drywall.
Keep in mind that this method works best with tab- or tie-top types of curtains that have a loop to slip over each knob. If not, you'll need hangers like Lansian's Curtain Rings with Clips. Affix the rings to the curtain at evenly spaced intervals. Then, loop them over the knobs so that they hang evenly across the window. Because the curtains will remain stationary on the rings, this is a good way to accentuate windows where privacy isn't a concern. Or, if you want the option to cover the window, layer a shade or another curtain underneath the side panels.
