Skip Wreaths: A Cuter Way To Add Style To Your Front Door
Wreaths are the usual go-to for making a door look more inviting. But if you are looking for a way to make your front door really stand out, it's time to replace your wreaths with something much cuter. TikToker Julie's Wreath Boutique demonstrates how to make two different styles of angel wing wreaths — classic neutral and patriotic — to show just how easy it is to customize this door decor for almost any season or occasion.
You can do this project even if you're new to crafting. The video shows the door hanger being completed in just a few minutes, with things Julie had on hand, but your own may take longer depending on your experience level and supplies. However, it's still a quick project and can make a nice last minute gift idea, so consider keeping a few frames on hand — just in case!
All you need for this project is a basic angel wing form (Julie used the Wreaths of Joy angel wing decor), ribbons, flowers and greenery, and accent decorations. You'll also need a few basic tools including floral wire or zip ties, a wire cutter, and scissors. Optional tools shown in the video include a Pro Bow bow maker and electric scissors. Julie does not recommend using a hot glue gun to attach the florals because, she says, "sometimes the flowers and the greenery will fade." Using wire or ties makes it easy to replace things as needed, including for changes in seasons. And, since the frames are metal, they can be reused over and over.
A cuter front door with angel wings
Start by ensuring that your angel wing form is clean and ready to go. Then, it's time to add greenery. Julie bundles greenery into a bow shape with zip ties, but you can also use floral wire to keep them together securely. You'll fasten the bundle to the form with zip ties or floral wire. Now, add your mesh or ribbon bow to the frame to create a balanced look. While a bow maker is utilized in the video, you can easily use pre-made bows or make your own by hand. Julie notes that you don't want the angel wings to be overpowered by the bow, but it should also be a focal point. Weather-resistant ribbon is recommended for use outdoors.
You can create depth by using darker colors close to the frame and building out with progressively lighter colors, as suggested in the video. Once everything is attached and to your liking, fluff up the greenery and ribbon, and trim if necessary. The Wreaths of Joy form has a ring on the back so it's super easy to hang on your door with a wreath hanger or hook.
This form can also be used for holiday decor. Replace greenery with pine branches, faux fall leaves, or bright spring flowers, then add some ornaments, pine cones, acorns, or plastic eggs. You can also use season-appropriate ribbons, such as orange or brown ribbon for fall, frosty white for Christmas, or pretty pastels for Easter. Weave in some battery-operated fairy lights, like the Minetom twinkle string lights, to complete the look. Now you have an unique, stylish upgrade for your front door without a wreath.
