Decorating your front yard with seasonal decor is a great way to keep your space looking refreshed throughout the year. It makes a landscape appear festive and inviting, boosting curb appeal and injecting personal pride in your home. In fact, expressing yourself with outdoor decor often leads to stronger community ties and a sense of belonging. So, what better way to ring in the fall season than with a genius pool noodle hack that'll upgrade any yard? TikToker Huddin Homestead Fun Farm combined pool noodles and an umbrella to create showstopping oversized pumpkin decor.

This project will turn your landscape into a whimsical pumpkin patch. And the other great thing about this idea is that it puts classic pumpkin decor in your yard without the drawbacks of a real one. Real pumpkins rot over time, but cute pumpkin DIYs made from household items are far more practical for outdoor spaces.

Crafting a massive pumpkin is a large-scale project that requires many materials. You'll need caulk, hot glue, primer, spray paint, PVC pipe, a PVC end cap, painter's tape, insulation spray foam, an umbrella, and a round wood board to complete the DIY. To keep this over-the-top decor idea budget-friendly, source your pool noodles for $1 each at a dollar store and upcycle an old or thrifted umbrella. Pick up the rest of the materials, including something like the 24 in. x 1 in. Round Pine Edge-Glued Board, at a local home improvement store.

How to transform pool noodles into an impressive pumpkin for your lawn

A sturdy base is key to this project. Start by removing the bottom hook handle of the umbrella and cutting the pool noodles in half lengthwise. A box cutter will be most effective, though a serrated knife will also do the job. Glue a ¾-inch PVC end cap to the center of the wood board, and insert a 30-inch-long and ¾-inch-wide PVC pipe in the middle. Stick the umbrella in the PVC pipe, and this will serve as the foundational shape for the giant DIY pumpkin.

Hot glue and tape the pool noodles around the wood board, forming a curved shape that uses the wood board and umbrella top as a reference. Don't worry about leaving smaller gaps between the noodles, as these will be filled with insulation foam later. Be mindful of how much spray foam is applied. The more you use, the bumpier the pumpkin will look. This is great if you're going for a more rustic aesthetic; however, if you want a sleeker look, be more conservative with the foam. Use caulk to smooth out the look, being sure to scrape off and smooth it down as you go.

Once the caulk is dry, apply primer and paint. Pool noodle foam is porous, and paint won't apply evenly without multiple primer layers. Use up to three coats of primer before painting the design with an orange spray paint, like Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Rustic Orange Spray Paint. Once finished, set the giant pumpkin on a front porch, in your front yard, amongst your garden plants, or anywhere else it'll fit. Pair it with other fall-inspired DIYs, like another pool noodle hack that makes a showstopping pumpkin trellis.
