One of the key reasons to hang curtains or blinds is for privacy's sake. After all, it can be unsettling knowing someone is able to peek in. The trade-off, though, is that it often means darkening your space when you keep them shut. If you want privacy without living in a cave, there's a temporary frosted glass technique making its way around the internet. You just need a coating of Elmer's Liquid School Glue and masking tape. While there are many types of shades and blinds, this is an easy and budget-friendly option that allows you to add some unique flair to your windows. 

It's understandable if putting glue on your windows sounds a bit odd. But the method really does block the visibility of plain glass without completely blocking out light. Another perk is that you can remove dried Elmer's glue very easily due to it being a washable formula, meaning there's little commitment. This can be especially beneficial for renters who aren't able to make permanent changes. It will, however, be tough to clean your windows while having it on, since the glue will come off in the process.

The masking tape (or painter's tape) is part of the decorative side of the DIY. You attach strips to the glass to form a design. After the glue is applied and the tape is peeled off, the design will remain. This extra step can help make a window a real statement piece. But note that the lines do create a little transparency.

First, clean the inside of your window really well before starting. You'll then be ready to create your window design using the masking or painter's tape. It could be anything from a grid to a more intricate pattern (similar to stained glass). Stick strands on until you're happy with the look. Next, grab a plastic container or paint tray along with a foam brush or foam roller. Pour Elmer's glue into the vessel and get ready to do some painting.

Cover the window with an even layer of glue, and pull the tape strands off once you're done. Keep in mind that you want to do so prior to the glue drying to create smooth lines. When it dries, it will create a more private window that doesn't require curtains. The design should help give it a stylish pop.

Not feeling the project anymore? Or could the window benefit from a fresh layer of glue? Simply get out a rag and a container of soapy water. Clean the glass until there's no more glue residue left. Alternatively, you might be able to peel some of it off if you applied multiple coats. Because the DIY isn't difficult to complete, it could be fun to try out different designs. Yet, if you'd rather have more privacy than decoration, just skip the tape altogether.
