Welcome to $50 Challenge, where we arm two intrepid shoppers with $50 each and send them out to one of our favorite retailers.

When it comes to picking up reliable and affordable holiday goods, we're sure we're not alone when we say, "Duh. Target." We recently sent two Hunker staffers — Leo, our Director of Content, and Lacey, our Senior Social Media Manager — to the Target in Culver City, L.A. to see what holiday goodies they could find, but with a catch: Each could only spend $50. Scroll on to see what they got:

Wondershop Glass Round Christmas Ornaments, $8

Video of the Day

I actually already own a pack of these clear glass ornaments. They're the denim jeans of tree decor: They go with everything!

Wondershop Pop Open Cat House, $12.99

Will my cat actually use this? 50/50 chance. But at $12.99 it's a risk I'm willing to take.

Opalhouse Christmas Pom Pom Garland, $19.99

Yes, you could DIY this, but I don't have time! $20 isn't a bad investment for something you can use year after year.

Metal Menorah, $20

Oops, the $5 menorah I found isn't available online, but check the bargain bins near the front of the door!

Lacey's Picks:

Opalhouse Christmas Tree Brush Set, $19.99

Anytime I get a more life-sized tree, my cat gets all up in it and makes a mess. As a festive alternative, I chose these mini bottle brush trees that I can use to create a holiday tablescape on my entryway table. Plus, those colors are dreamy!

Opalhouse Faux Fur Throw, $10

This blue pom-pom throw is super soft and cozy, plus it works perfectly as an accent on my all-white bedding.

Hearth & Hand With Magnolia Stoneware Mug, $4.99

2019 was ... a lot. I spent most of it feeling like "I can't," but the new year is just around the corner and "actually, I can" seems like the right vibe going into 2020.

Opalhouse Sugarplum Dreams Candle, $9.99

I believe that one can never have too many candles. This metallic blush candle not only looks chic, but also smells amazing. Not entirely sure what smell "sugarplum" is supposed to be, but I'm 100% on board.
