Remove water stains without damaging wood surfaces.

Bar Keepers Friend is a non-abrasive cleaning product safe to use on a wide variety of surfaces, including wood. The cleaner eliminates problems, such as water stains, that remain on a wooden surface after cleaning the item with a conventional, every day cleaning product. Unlike products that contain harsh chemicals or bleach, Bar Keepers Friend leaves no noticeable stain or other blemishes on the wood. You also only require a small amount of the product to remove water stains from wood.

Step 1

Remove crumbs, dirt or any other debris from the wood using a moist paper towel or rag.

Step 2

Dampen a cloth with tap water.

Step 3

Sprinkle approximately 1 tbsp. of the Bar Keepers Friend powder onto the damp cloth.

Step 4

Wipe the stained areas of wood with the cloth.

Step 5

Repeat Steps 3 and 4, as needed, until all stains are cleaned. Wait about 1 minute before proceeding.

Step 6

Dampen a clean cloth with water. Wipe over the wood to rinse off the Bar Keepers Friend. Dry the wood with either paper towels or a dry rag or cloth.

Step 7

Inspect the wood. Proceed to Step 8 if water stains remain.

Step 8

Mix a cleaning paste of about ¼ cup Bar Keepers Friend and ¼ cup water into a small bowl. Mix the ingredients for a minute or two until a paste is formed.

Step 9

Spread the paste over the water stains found on the wood. Leave the paste on the stains for 30 to 60 seconds. The Bar Keepers Friend website recommends against leaving the paste on any surface for longer than one minute.

Step 10

Repeat Step 6 to rinse and dry the wood.
