Subway tile backsplashes are a classic choice, but they're not for everyone. No matter how experimental you get with your colors and layout, these simple tiles remain, well, simple. If you want a little more je ne sais quoi for your kitchen or bathroom backsplash, why not leave the basic subway tile behind and consider a mosaic? This alternative backsplash idea isn't just any old mosaic, however. Instead, it offers a floral layout, resulting in a beautiful daisy-like pattern that climbs your walls.

Now, you might be thinking that while subway tiles are simple, the rectangular shape at least makes them easy to place on the wall. If you think a floral mosaic sounds a little too complicated for a tiling idea, fear not. This tile comes pre-laid on a mesh sheet, making it super easy to mount to your walls without the need for mortar, tile spacers, or even planning your layout. All you need is a tile mat adhesive, a wet saw for cutting, and your chosen grout. The result? A decorative tile idea that looks almost like wallpaper.

An Instagram reel demonstrating this idea from content creator Hannah Weakly (@hannah_weakley_home) has proven to be a hit on the app. She uses the Daisy Flower Stone Mosaic Tile from Buy Floors Direct for her project, with a 12 inch sheet of tile costing $20.49. Lots of other retailers have similar options, however. For example, you can buy the Ivy Hill Polished Marble Mosaic Tile at Home Depot, which looks very similar and comes in four different finishes, including ivory, white, and blue.

To install these tiles, you will need to use an adhesive to stick them to your walls. Weakley uses the MussleBound tile mat, a double-sided adhesive. First, apply this across the area you wish to tile, then cut your tile sheets with a wet saw tile cutter. Install the individual sheets by sticking them to the adhesive on your wall, making sure to line up the pattern.

Once the tiles are fixed to the wall, you can begin grouting. A gray or off-white grout is a good option for natural marble tiles, or you could use a colored grout if you want a more unusual idea. Green or sunny yellow would make a good fit for this floral idea, helping the flowers to pop. Just make sure you choose a color with enough contrast so that your tiles don't fade into the grout lines. Caulk the edges to seal or use a tile trim, and voila, you'll have one of the most unique kitchen or bathroom backsplash ideas that guests will have seen.

Weakley takes her floral mosaic backsplash all the way up the wall in her bathroom, but you can use these tiles for a backsplash of any size. You don't have to limit yourself to a marble tile, either. For example, Lowes offers a green and white daisy mosaic tile which would look beautiful set against pale pink or dark green grout. Use it for a pretty bohemian-themed mosaic kitchen backsplash, or to make your bathroom sink stand out in a botanical bathroom.
