How to Remove Storm Door Windows and Screens. Storm door windows and screens get a lot of wear. It's important to replace them as soon as there is sufficient wear to cause a loss of energy and to help you prevent elevated utility bills. They should also be replaced when they begin to look worn and take away from the beauty of a home.

Step 1

Remove the operational glass from the storm door. This can be done by sliding the glass up as far as it will go, then pulling the bottom out of the tracks. If the door has been painted and there is paint on the seam, use a utility knife to break through the paint first.

Step 2

Place one hand on each side of the top piece of glass in the door, one hand on the outside and one hand on the inside. Press your hands together firmly and try to shift the piece of glass straight up. It should come up enough to be at the top of the screen. Push from the outside on the bottom to help clear this lip and remove the piece of glass.

Step 3

Lift the screen panel up and out of its tracks. If there are any problems along the way, make sure there is nothing to hinder movement of the window pieces or the screen. This now makes the screen completely accessible to repair, cleaning or other modification or service.

Step 4

Reassemble the door using the same techniques in the opposite fashion. Make sure to put the screen in completely before installing the top window and then operational window.
