Faux suede, a synthetic material, can be dyed just like natural materials, such as cotton or hemp. If you have faux suede garments or decor fabrics, such as window coverings, changing the color is a cost-friendly alternative to buying new ones. Dyeing faux suede isn't a difficult endeavor, and it can be completed in under an hour in your home with minimal materials.
Step 1
Fill a 5-gallon bucket three-fourths full with hot water. Make the water as hot as you can bear. Mix in 1 cup salt to set the color into the fabric when it is dyed.

Stir in the synthetic fabric colorant using a disposable stirring wand. This can be purchased online or through craft and hobby supply shops. Stir until the dye disperses throughout the water entirely and tints the water the same color. For every 3 gallons water, add 2 oz. dye.
Step 3
Drop the faux suede garment or other material item into the bucket. Push it deep into the hot, dyed water. Agitate the fabric in the water thoroughly with gloved hands or a stirring stick for about five minutes.
Step 4
Dump the dyed water from the bucket down a stainless steel sink or outside. Fill the bucket with cold, clean water, and agitate the faux suede for two more minutes.
Step 5
Discard the bucket water, and thoroughly rinse the faux suede garment in a stainless steel sink or outdoors until the water runs clear from it. Follow up by washing the suede alone in a washing machine on cold.
