Affinity Washer Door Lock Problems

The door to the washer may seem like more of an aesthetic piece, but it actually controls the start and stop of the machine to a point. If the door doesn't latch properly, the washer shouldn't kick into gear in the first place. If you have a load of clothes and water in the washer and it has abruptly stopped, it could be due to the door latch signaling the machine to stop. The Affinity washer door lock problems include popping open when the washer is in the middle of a cycle, causing a downpour of difficulties or not releasing its latches properly when it's time to remove the heavy, wet clothes from the washer's tub. It more than likely is the door's lock itself or its motor and switch assembly that is causing the glitch.

How to Fix a Failed Lock

Unplug the washer before you begin any work on the machine. Push in on the locked door to get it to pop open. If the display shows an error code, look that up in the manual to pinpoint which parts you'll need to confront and repair. The door lock switch assembly is located in the rim of the door. It may just need a quick cleaning of the sensitive solenoids. A multimeter can help you to know if the switch and the solenoids in the assembly are working properly. The door lock assembly requires a screwdriver to open to clean or replace any damaged parts. If the door looks damaged, you may need to replace the entire part to get the machine back to good working order.

Quick Disabling of a Cycle

If you've simply forgotten to add an item to a load already started or realized you placed a delicate item in with rough denim clothes, you can stop the load and disable the lock using the control panel. To complete the Frigidaire front load washer door latch bypass can be quickly done by pressing the control lock button for five seconds. This should disable the lock. Push the start/pause button to stop the current wash cycle. You should now be able to pry the washer's door open to add clothes or remove items. Press the start/cancel button to begin the same cycle. The current cycle can be stopped and restarted under new conditions by pressing the cancel button.
