The Whirlpool bottom-mount refrigerator uses three different drawers. The refrigerator has two humidity-controlled crisper drawers, and the freezer on the bottom is a complete pull-out drawer with two baskets. Sometimes it is necessary to remove drawers from a Whirlpool GX5SHDXV to clean the drawers or spills around the drawer. While the crisper drawers are much like any other refrigerator, the freezer drawer might require a helper if you have the stainless steel model. The stainless steel drawer has some weight to it that makes removal cumbersome for one person.

Step 1

Open the refrigerator door and slide open the crisper drawer. Empty the contents from the drawer.

Step 2

Grasp the sides of the crisper drawer front and lift up while pulling the drawer toward you. This disengages the rear pins on the top rear of the drawer from the tabs on the front of the side rail.

Step 3

Pull the handle on the freezer drawer and fully extend the drawer. Empty the contents and remove the two freezer baskets from the drawer.

Step 4

Loosen the two screws on each side of the drawer that connect the side drawer slides to the back of the drawer front with a Phillips-head screwdriver. You only need to turn the screws four turns. Do not remove the screws from the drawer front.

Step 5

Lift the drawer front straight up to disengage the front of each drawer slide from the screws. If you have the stainless steel model, ask a friend to assist lifting the drawer front away from the slides. Pull the freezer drawer straight out and away from the unit.
